Promotional Swag Ideas

Creativity and innovation are the keys to capturing an audience’s attention and driving business growth in the marketing world. In a quest for an extraordinary campaign, our marketing team turned to the whimsical world of Willy Wonka, which eventually led to utilizing a "golden ticket" to entice past, current, and potential clients.

This story will tell the tale of how they turned this iconic concept into a marketing extravaganza, leveraging the power of promotional swag products and social media to connect with our clients and achieve remarkable success.

Promotional swag products hold a unique place in marketing strategies. They serve as concrete brand representations, leaving a lasting impression on recipients, including employees and consumers. From custom apparel and tech gadgets to quirky accessories and useful items, swag products create a sense of client appreciation.

Here are the top 10 promotional swag and merchandise ideas for employees and clients:

  1. Branded Power Banks: In the digital age, a power bank with your logo can be a practical and appreciated gift, ensuring your brand is remembered.
  2. Customized Keychains: An everyday item that can be easily branded and given away as swag.
  3. Logo-imprinted Pens: These are classic promotional items that are useful and offer consistent brand visibility.
  4. Branded Sticky Notes: Useful for both professional and personal organization, sticky notes with your company's logo can be a great promotional item.
  5. Customized T-shirts: Branded apparel like t-shirts are a popular choice for promotional swag, providing a wearable billboard for your brand.
  6. Logo-imprinted Water Bottles: Sustainable and practical, reusable water bottles with your logo can promote both your brand and environmental consciousness.
  7. Customized Mouse Pads: Ideal for corporate giveaways, these can keep your brand in sight throughout the workday.
  8. Branded Coasters: Whether used in the office or at home, coasters bearing your brand can be an effective promotional item.
  9. Customizable USB Flash Drives: Practical for storing and transporting digital data, flash drives can be branded and used as effective promotional items.
  10. Branded Hand Sanitizers: Particularly relevant in the context of public health, mini hand sanitizers with your company's logo can be a timely and practical piece of swag.

Our team knew that handing out promotional swag would catch the attention of many, but doing so in a non-traditional fashion would take this campaign to new heights. The head of our marketing team, Eric, turned to SwagMagic to help them enhance brand visibility and encourage customer loyalty, hopefully generating a positive word-of-mouth reputation by giving away swag and offering well-made items that held value in daily life.

Eric knew how crucial promotional swag would be in this loosely put-together golden ticket campaign, and he sought to make it an integral part of their Willy Wonka-inspired adventure. It was time for the team to start constructing the process of this latest marketing endeavor, and it would have been much easier if Eric and the team could agree.

In fact, the only thing they came together on was the fact that they wanted to follow a Willy Wonka theme and that SwagMagic should supply the product. Other than that, they were arguing quite a bit! The rest of the office tried to ignore it, but the tension was becoming obvious.

Building the perfect campaign

The marketing team's obsession with Willy Wonka's golden ticket was undeniable. Still, it was also causing fights, as everyone had different ideas regarding how they should distribute the golden ticket items. The concept of offering a fantastic experience to our clients through a captivating contest fueled their creative brainstorming sessions.

However, some team members wanted the golden ticket products to symbolize exclusivity. At the same time, others thought the company should give away a large number of golden tickets, with prizes from Swag and SnackMagic for each. Instead of one massive giveaway with thousands of entrants, the marketing angle would be to hold many giveaways.

With the team split down the middle, they turned to the rest of us to decide which path to take. We held an office-wide vote concerning the golden ticket marketing campaign, and it was decided that our company would hand out many promotional items through various golden ticket giveaways. Most of us felt that this would be a more inclusive way to approach the campaign, and with the vote official, the marketing team was able to put their arguments aside and continue with planning the campaign.

Integrating Social Channels

The marketing team's first step was to refine their Willy Wonka-inspired campaign. As the rest of us watched, they huddled together in daily meetings, drawing inspiration from the iconic story, watching the movie more than once, and devising a plan to bring the golden ticket concept to life.

Eric and his assistant, Susie, crafted a series of social media teasers, each hinting at the upcoming campaign and building suspense among our followers. We had a nearly immediate uptick in social engagement, causing the excitement in our office to grow.

Each department utilized its social channels to connect with clients and generate a buzz. We began sharing engaging videos and interactive quizzes revolving around our not-yet-announced golden ticket theme. Using clever hashtags and encouraging user-generated content, they prompted our audience to participate, share their stories, and spread the word about our brand mission.

Our CEO was thrilled with the progress of the campaign, and as boxes of snacks and promotional merchandise began to arrive, we couldn’t wait to pick winners. Management wanted us to hold employee giveaways as well. We gathered around, wondering what might be in the boxes, chatting casually about what the prizes could be!

Overcoming Marketing Challenges

As the campaign gained momentum, the team's obsession with the golden ticket idea became a driving force and a stumbling block. Eric dedicated countless hours to refining the contest rules, ensuring fairness, and maintaining the element of surprise. His focus on the golden ticket overshadowed other vital aspects of the campaign.

It wasn't long before we realized that they needed to strike a balance between their obsession with the golden ticket rules and the campaign's overall success. It wasn't long before we realized that they needed to strike a balance between their obsession with the golden ticket rules and the campaign's overall success. Recognizing the need for guidance, Eric sought assistance from experts in the field.

With permission from our CEO, he was able to bring in an expert that smoothed out the entire campaign, streamlining the rules and making them easier for contestants (and the marketing team) to understand. The new process brought simplicity and fairness to the table, and we implemented it for our clients and employees.

For clients to win a golden ticket, they had to:

  1. Follow us on social media
  2. Share our channels with their followers
  3. Comment on two photos

To up their chances, they could book services with us for a triple entry!

For employees to win a golden ticket, we had to:

  1. Come to work and put our name on an entry slip

The campaign became much easier from there.

The team announced the contest details and encouraged their followers to participate actively for a chance to find the golden ticket and embark on a magical, though virtual, journey.

The response was overwhelming. Users eagerly shared their experiences, conversed, and expressed enthusiasm for the campaign. The team embraced the opportunity to connect with clients on a deeper level, responding to their comments and addressing their queries promptly.

As the campaign progressed, the team leveraged the power of storytelling to share behind-the-scenes glimpses of our company. We shared updates about the winners and the exclusive swag they received.
